Call for Abstracts (Closed)
We are pleased to invite abstract submissions for the 3rd English Medium Instruction (EMI) Symposium 2019, an international research symposium on topics related to EMI. The Symposium will take place at the Department of Education, University of Oxford on Wednesday 26 June, 2019.
The English Medium Instruction (EMI) Symposium is a one-day symposium held every other year at the University of Oxford, Department of Education for students, researchers, and practitioners to convene and discuss the latest trends, experiences and findings in research on the teaching of academic subjects through English. The symposium invites keynote speakers to share their work on EMI, offering a global perspective with experts from different countries presenting on the realities of EMI in their local context. We are pleased to announce that the invited speakers at the 2019 EMI Symposium will be Professor David Lasagabaster (University of the Basque Country), and Associate Professor Emma Dafouz Milne (Complutense University of Madrid). In addition, a limited number of spaces will be available for individual presentations at the symposium.
We invite students, researchers, and practitioners to submit abstracts for 15-minute presentations at the symposium, with a further 5 minutes for questions. (The presentations are shorter than the typical 20-25 minutes at many applied linguistics conferences, because a shared focus on EMI warrants less time needed to devote to situating the research within a broader literature). Submissions are welcome regardless of the stage of research, and presenters are invited to share ongoing work. The symposium offers a unique opportunity to present and discuss your research with EMI researchers, established academics, and practitioners from various countries.
Participants are encouraged to reflect on how their research relates to the theme, “Where does EMI take us? Global perspectives and local realities,” and the following sub-themes:
Abstracts no longer than 200 words are to be uploaded through the EMI Network website (http://www.emi.network/emi-symposium-2019.html) no later than 15 February 2019 (Abstract submission is closed). We will notify presenters of successful submissions no later than 18 March 2019 and will assign your presentation to a panel session according to its theme.
We look forward to receiving your abstract submission!
